School Board Adopts ’09-’10 Budget

Tonight the Marlboro Central School District has adopted the ’09-’10 School Budget. This is the budget that will be presented to the taxpayers to be voted on in May.

The three options considered were:

  1. Contingency Budget: 6.05% increase ($49,061,246). The maximum the cap allows if the budget doesn’t get approved by the taxpayers.
  2. a 4.58% increase ($48,380,808). The current budget adding fixed costs.
  3. a 2.12% increase ($47,244,808). The current budget adding fixed costs and reducing/reallocating teachers and staff, modifying programs, reduction of supplies and teacher retirement.

The School Board has opted for the lowest budget increase (2.12%). No schools will be closed at this time. The School Board president indicated that the administrators have agreed to a 1% reduction on their salary increase. He also indicated that the teachers’ union was contacted to ask if the teachers would also agree to a 1% reduction on their salary increase. The offer was rejected.
